Any Day Now….

If the current conflict in Lebanon continues, I suspect that the US (except Speaker Pelosi, as she was in Greenland at the time) will be held responsible for the rise of al-Qaeda in Lebanon and that the US should be held responsible for al-Qaeda in Lebanon fighting against the elected government of Lebanon.

Watch for Hezbollah (an Iranian proxy) to “bring peace” to Lebanon by staging either a bloody or bloodless coup and takeover. Now, there is a conspiracy theory worthy of development.

Cindy Sheehan seems to have finally discovered that the Daily Kos and Moveon.org were using her. What a pity – I hope Ms Sheehan is now finally able to find at least some peace wrt the loss of her son, Casey.

A Connection?

Wonder if there is any connection between Iran holding three people visiting family in Iran, threatening to charge them with espianoge and the reports last week by ABC (from undisclosed sources, i.e. a possible true leak or a possible false leak) about an alleged non-military covert actions to be directed against Iran?

True enough these people were placed “on hold” before the ABC report, but then again, I’m sure the reports didn’t help those trying to gain the release of these people visiting family in Iran.

Either Or

The politics in Congress is always a little hard to divine.

For instance, the 110th Congressional Leadership decided to include minimum wage in the legislation for the 4 month Iraq supplemental, recently passed by Congress and signed by the President. Either the leadership was desperate to get something from the “Six for 06 Agenda” knowing the supplemental funding for Iraq was going to pass OR the minimum wage was included to provide political cover for those who may want to void their support for the supplemental funding in the future by enabling them to say, “I voted for the minimum wage increase”.

No wonder Cindy Sheehan decided to leave the Dems to themselves. Either the Dems have no principle or they have no principle.

Kinda Makes One Wonder

If the Leadership of the House and the Majority in the House don’t support their own rules and allow Rep. Murtha to violate the rules in such a blatant way, what can this say about their commitment to the “rules” in the Immigration Reform legislation being considered in the 110th Congress? Maybe additional benchmarks should be considered.

Here’s two more reasons US membership in the UN should be reconsidered.

The chairmanship of the Commission on Sustainable Development, (economic development and the environment) was recently bestowed upon Zimbabwe. Although Zimbabwe used to be “breadbasket of Africa”, it is now in the middle of tremendous food shortages. Their inflation rate, a current highest record holder at 2,200%. Their economy last year contracted 5% last year, while Africa as whole grew by 5%.

And then…..who is given a vice chairmanship of the Disarmament Commission…yep….Iran. The same Iran that is currently defying U.N. sanctions over its nuclear program. To add insult to injury, Syria was made rapportuer on this commission. Both are on a list of countries that the US indicates are sponsoring worldwide terrorism.

Let’s redeploy our diplomats out of the UN.

Verry Interresting

Speaker Pelosi indicates that she requires President Bush to “deliver” 70 GOP votes before she’ll bring any Immigration Reform to the floor of the house. This is interesting in that all she really wants for passing Troop Support legislation that the President indicates that he’ll veto is a simple Dem “majority”, less Majority Leader Hoyer.

I know the Speaker is new to the job, but maybe she needs to brush up on her civics. It is the responsibility of the House leadership to deliver legislation to the Executive Branch. At least this is what the Speaker’s party was saying about the GOP leadership in the 108th and 109th Congresses.

Even Sen. Reid, the majority leader in the Senate seems to not lead the Senate to Immigration Reform.

Certainly, those wondering about the motives of the leadership of this 110th Congress, can now see clearly that it is purely political gamespersonship. There is no interest in dealing with the issues.

All I ask…..

Very few Americans are anti-immigrant. As many have said [and I concur], the US is a country of predominantly immigrants. Immigrants are welcome and necessary to our continued growth and prosperity.

All I ask is that while the 110th Congress is considering Immigration Reform [as they should] that they don’t pass legislation that treats the taxpayers like doormats.

Same game, new rules with Dems at helm Good article over at Politico.com that lends support to my view of the 110th Congress.

Rep. Pelosi and Sen. Reid should start concentrating on serving the citizens and put off serving the political ambitions of the Dem Party, at least for the the time being. This is the reason why starting the 2008 Federal election campaign early is so wrong. The citizens are getting nothing, but more promises.

Another Dem Victory?

The Senate voted down proposed legislation to defund Iraq military operations within 120 days. Sen. Feingold’s (that name sounds familar) bill lost 67 to 29. Sen. Barack and Sen. Clinton voted with the 29. Four Senators did not vote. Sen. Johnson is still recovering from his brain hemorage, so he’s excused. Wonder who the other three non-voting Senators are? Do they possess valid excuses or just lack intestinal fortitude What is really amazing is that Sen. Biden and Sen. Reid wanted to spin the vote on this bill as a “win”. FYI – - 67 to 29 is not a win! It is not even progress. It made the news, but it accomplished nothing. It was just a further waste of time.

When is this 110th Congress going to get some legislation passed and signed? This afterall is their primary responsibility to the American voters. At least that was what we were told when the GOP was in the leadership. The Dem leadership is not distinguishing itself from the past failed GOP leadership.
