Non-Binding Resolutions are Copouts

Wednesday, January 31, 2007

A non-binding resolutison is not action – – One can make the case that it is protest.  Our representatives were sent to US Congress, not to protest, but to insure that proper action is taken.
A non-binding resolution did not provide much opportunity for debate – – Certainly not the kind of debate that is undertaken [...]

Withdrawing. Remaining – Both have Consequences

Tuesday, January 30, 2007

We have lived the consequences of staying in Iraq for the past few years.  However, withdrawing from Iraq also has consequences. Withdrawal will create opportunities for and will embolden those against a free and secure Iraq, irregardless of the current Iraqi government’s ability to repel them.  In that sense, withdraw does embolden.
A non-binding resolution against [...]

Hypocrisy?

Monday, January 29, 2007

The Senate recently confirmed General Petraeus unanimously to take over as the Commander in Iraq  This despite the fact that many disagree with what Gen. Petraeus agrees needs to be done in Iraq as a next step.
The Senators justify this with the statement that the President deserves to have his choice for Commander in Iraq.  [...]

Senator Lieberman vs Dem Party Principle

Monday, January 29, 2007

Senator Lieberman may be welcome in the Congressional Dem Caucus.  However, moveon.org and the vocal members of the Dem Party do not welcome Sen. Lieberman in the Dem Party.
Sen. Lieberman’s principle: Independent thought and opinion
Dem Party principle: Garnering the single vote in the Senate needed to give itself the leadership role.

If a Woman Become President….

Saturday, January 27, 2007

As a man, I have no objection to a woman becoming President. Whoever has the best action plan and the best qualifications for America deserves to be President.
I do have a few questions.
If a woman becomes President will women be taking on the lead responsibility for initiating “dates”?  Will men finally be emancipated from the [...]

Skyrocketing Medical Costs

Friday, January 26, 2007

Before we start throwing out solutions to reduce and/or deal with the high cost of medical care in the US.  And certainly before “solutions” are made into policy and/or law.  Do we understand the problem?  Here’s some questions that need to be asked and answered to gain the understanding of the problem.

*Why medical cost risen [...]

Stop the Insanity!

Thursday, January 25, 2007

Every week another state talks about moving their Presidential Primary to the front of the pack.  This continued leapfrogging will place the beginning of the next election barely after the last one. Is it only me that sees that this is not a good trend?  It pisses off the traditional “firsts”, understandably. However, the thought [...]

State of the Union

Wednesday, January 24, 2007

President Bush rightfully acknowledged and honored the first woman Speaker of the House of Representatives, the Honorable Nancy Pelosi.
The speech was not great, the agenda set forward not bold…but it was a good one.  It’s one that can certainly be acted upon, at the very least can be built upon.
One can only hope that the [...]

“24″ – It’s a TV Program

Tuesday, January 23, 2007

This year’s episode has a nuclear device going off in LA.  For those on the looney right – fear mongering? – See what could happen if we are weak kneed?   For those on the looney left – fear mongering? – See, if we don’t inspecting every container a nuclear device could enter through our [...]

Promoting Education

Monday, January 22, 2007

The US House passed legislation to decrease the interest rate on federal government sponsored school loans.  This legislation is well intentioned but will it accomplish all that is intended?  The ultimate goal should be to encourage students to graduate, not just go to school
Don’t use student loan interest rates as the only federal government incentive.  [...]
